Hometown Food, Tanjong Bungah

Been more then a year since I last posted anything on this blog. So today's blog is inspired by my recent trip back to my hometown Tanjong Bungah, Penang.

People ask me what's famous at Tanjong Bungah....hmmm.....besides TAR college I guess it's the food here. I'm surprise myself that there's many famous food here in the small town which I grew up and many of this food has more then 20 years in history.

We'll start with the Goreng Pisang.....who does not know about Tanjong Bungah Goreng Pisang....located on the way up to Batu Feringgi....this small white van makes the best goreng pisang in Penang. Using the whole banana and also the coating which is more creamy compared to the normal goreng pisang this van is the attraction not only to locals but also tourist visiting Penang. It has been operating for more then 20 years.

Location: at the roadside after Maybank Tg.Bungah, on the way to Batu Feringgi. Operating on a white van.

Just across the road 30 over years of history of Mee Goreng. This uncle has been selling Mee Goreng for more then 30 years. I grew up with this Mee Goreng so to me this is the best Mee Goreng in Penang. I've tried Bangkok Lane, Mt.Eskine but to me this Mee Goreng is still the best. It uses 5 types of gravy to cook its Mee Goreng n with the eggs covering the noodles.....it's the best.

Location: Chuan Foong Restaurant, to Chee Seng Garden, towards Batu Feringgi AFTER Maybank Tg.Bungah turn left. Business hours 12-5pm I think.

Another more then 30years of food history is non other then Hillside Burger. He started selling when my parents were still dating and I'm now 32years old....just imagine....many would agree that this burger is the best in Penang. The difference is the sautéed onion which is put on the burger. Many travel from as far as Butterworth just to get a burger from this uncle. He'll start selling at around 4-7pm at Jalan Gajah ( the road opposite Penang Chinese Swimmjng Club) before continuing at Hillside from 7-11pm. Beware of long queue....this is a must have everytime I go back to my hometown. Still remember when I'm young he use to tell me how my mom and dad would go buy burger from him at night. Doubt that he still remember me now.....lol.

Location: Hillside, Tanjong Bungah (3 9 as the local known) opposite smile dental.

We also have a few new comers like the chain Indian Restaurant Sri Anandha Bahwan which serves the best tandoori in Tg.Bungah. A variety of Indian cuisine and also located opposite the hotels at Tanjong Bungah, this restaurant is a real hit not only amongst tourist but also locals.

Location: Jalan Tanjong Bungah, opposite Flamingo Hotel.

This are a few favorite at Tanjong Bungah. There's also char kueh teow at Hillside which I do not know if it's still in operation and also Tony's Ais Kacang at the food court at Hillside.

Will update more after I make another food trip back to Penang. Maybe covering areas nearby Tanjong Bungah.

iPad Apps

Got my new toy to play with "iPad New". It's suppose to be my dears birthday present so that I can get my laptop back but she's sticking to the laptop.....so the iPad sticks with me for now....

Unlike my iPhone which I've jailbreak, still can't find any program to jailbreak my iPad. Meaning I have to search for free Apps. I've downloaded a few games which is kinda fun and addictive. Some need to be online to play and some you can play offline. Here's a few.

Online:
Paradise Cove: it's about collecting money and woods to built your village. There's also an exploration to explore treasures and pirates involved. Mermaids offers you a gambling chance to double your money......kinda fun but it takes time to built the village and exploration.technolog

Diamond Dash: a puzzle game which can be very addictive coz it connects you to your Facebook friends who's also playing and shows you your ranking amongs your friend.....the challenge is on....

Hay Day : this is similar with FarmVille where you start your own farm. Farming not just vege and fruits but also milks and bacons....all this are to be cooked into food that can be sold to earn money to improve the farm.

Castle Master: this is about how to conquer castle from the enemy by upgrading castle and training knights and warrior. It can get a bit boring after some time but it's quite addictive if you want to conquer all 45 castles.

Offline:
Samurai Def: it's Samurai vs Zombies. Kinda fun with the choices of allies you want to summons and also abilities/super power that you want to use against the Zombies. It's all about defending your village from zombies invasion. It has an online and offline version. You can also play the side of the zombies if you want.

This are a few apps that I find interesting and it's free. Next ill be looking for photo apps....

Vietnam

It took me 3 attempt to log in to this blog.....That proves how long i did not update my blog.....maybe coz my dear was hogging on my laptop....

Just to update abit on travel.

Just visited Vietnam last month and it was a trip full of clothing......

Nothing much to see there except at Chu Chi which is about 2 hours drive out of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh). It's really amaizing how they dig the the tunnel which has 3 layers and 250KM long....beside that nothing much at Saigon and drinking at the roadside seems to be the trend there. Lots and i mean LOTS of motobike......took me 10 mins to cross the road.
Hotel we stayed at was great providing free wifi n the hospitality was great. You can book at www.seventyhotel.com. Room is spacious but the lift is kida small and also the stairways it's like going into Chu Chi tunnel. But the room was great.

What is the cost of FREE Education?

Recently there is a protest in Malaysia to demolish the Education Loan Funds (PTPTN). The cause of the protest is to fight for free education. But does it come free? Of coz it has to be funded somewhere. In Malaysia we already have free education from Primary to Secondary school and now they are requesting for free education in higher education. What could this mean?

More Lawyers, more doctors and higher literacy? or higher TAX? as i mentioned free education means that is has to be funded by the government, from TAX PAYER money. To give free education would mean that government will have to increase tax. As in Malaysia we're already very lucky to have subsidized fuel, subsidized food and many more. Now free education for everyone?

I agree with the fact that free education should be given to those who deserve it, those who really excel in their grades or maybe sports but not to all. For those who are protesting for free education i advice that you look further, you might have your loan write off now but risking paying higher tax for the rest of your working life.

That is just my 2 cents view.

Nestle 100 Tahun Di Sisi Mu

It was great to work for a company which has rooted in Malaysia for 100 years. It feels great to be part of it and also part of the company vision 'Nourishing Malaysia'. We recently had the 100 years celebration at Dataran Merdeka and lots of people were there. Althought those who were on duty didn't get to enjoy the show much as we were busy entertaining visitors and sampling our products but it was great. Fireworks lasted about 10 minutes and the concert featured big names like Sheila Majid, Mizz Nina, Penny Tai, Hujan and Anuar Zain.

What Nestle means to me? i guess every employee will have different experiences with the company. As for me i just feel that Nestle is part of me and many has asked me why don't you leave the company when you have so much better offers outside. There are emotional feeling involve as i've grown up with Nestle. It will be hard for me to leave as Nestle is like my second mother who has brought me up to what i am now.

I still remember when i started working for Nestle when i was in Form 5. I started working coz my Mom works for Nestle at that time. I was then a part time promoter for Nestle Yogurt and Ice Cream. Will always get some sample from the distributors to take home. Still remember that my house fridge full of yogurt and ice cream. i grew up with that.

And it's not just the food that i enjoy but also the values. I still remember how the executive thought me about the business in ice cream and yogurt. Tactics that they use and also the values of the company. I feel at home at Nestle as the company has been part of my growing up in term of nourishing me physically and also mentally.

Nestle Celebrating 100 years and beyond..........

Hope that this is where i Start my journey and also it will be where i Finish with..........
